If you are in search of a video/DVD on a particular subject, follow these steps to locate
titles available at Case Western Reserve University.
To locate videos/DVDs, do a
keyword search
or a
subject heading search
in the Library Catalog. If you are looking for videos/DVDs on aging, a keyword search might
look like this:
aged or aging or elderly or gerontolog*
The list of titles that is displayed will be quite large. To find out which titles are
videos/DVDs, click on the
Limit/Sort button.
You will see a page with several options for
limiting
. Click on the scroll bar next to
Material Type.
Then select
Projected A/V from the list of choices.
If you just want to see which videos are at the Harris Library, click on the scroll bar next to
Where Item is Located and select
Harris Library MSASS.
If you want the videos/DVDs displayed in chronological order, click on the little box next to
Sort Results by Year.
Then click on the button labeled
"Limit/Sort items retrieved using above data."
The results will be a much smaller number of titles - all of which will be videos and DVDs.
NOTE: The Limit/Sort option can be used for any kind of search whenever you
want to narrow the list of titles that are displayed.
To retrieve a video/DVD, you will need the title and call number of the item (call number
example: MEDIA 404). Take the information to the Harris Library Circulation Desk and someone at the
desk will get the video/DVD for you. Harris Library videos/DVDs circulate for seven days if
it has not already been previously booked for use. For further information on borrowing Harris
Library videos/DVDs consult our
borrowing policy
. There are a few videos/DVDs that have specific restrictions about who can borrow them and/or
where the item can be used. You will be given more information about any restrictions prior to
check-out.
A
video player
is available in the library if you are interested in previewing a videotape before borrowing
it. We are currently in the process of purchasing a DVD player so you will soon be able to preview
a DVD as well. Also, some videos and DVDs have short clips available to preview online, usually on
the publisher's or distributor's website.
