Some databases are general in nature. They do not focus on one particular subject or discipline.
These resources are useful when you are trying to obtain background information on a topic, when
you want popular viewpoints on a subject, or when the nature of your inquiry is inter-disciplinary
in nature. Below are brief summaries of some of the general databases available to Case
affiliates.

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe:
This database is an abbreviated version of the full legal database by the same name. General
News Topics, General Health and Medical News, and Hot News Items will lead you to the full text of
short articles on current topics. It is available through
OhioLINK and has its own interface. Uses the
"!" for truncation. [Last updated August 17, 2007.]
SIRS Researcher:
Contains full-text articles on social, health, scientific, economic, business and political
issues. The full text of articles from over 1500 domestic and international newspapers, magazines,
journals and government publications are available. The database is also available through the
OhioLINK Research Databases
and has a unique interface.
Social Sciences Index:
Indexes articles from a broad range of social sciences journals that are at least one column
in length. Coverage includes a wide range of interdisciplinary fields. This database is available
through Case only and uses the WebSPIRS (Silver Platter) interface. Uses the "*" for
truncation.
