from the Library. Please

Agencies are also invited to become "special borrowers" at the Harris Library. For an annual fee
key agency staff or designates can have borrowing priviliges and receive research services at a
reduced rate.

Circulation Policies
The Harris Library is available for use by Case Western Reserve University students, faculty,
and staff, as well as MSASS alumni and members of the Cleveland area social work community.
Questions concerning circulation policies and procedures may be directed to the Circulation

MSASS and MCNPO alumni may request a Harris Library "Special Borrowers" card upon graduation.
The cards are valid for one academic year and may be renewed upon request. Alumni of MSASS and
MCNPO may also obtain a special borrowers card from Kelvin Smith Library for a fee.
Borrowing from the Harris Library
- Possession of a Case ID card or Special Borrowers card allows you to borrow from Kelvin Smith
Library and Harris Library. Policies may vary between University libraries, so please familiarize
yourself with them. (
Note
: Upon graduation the Case ID card is no longer valid so you must register for a Special
Borrowers card.)
- Community users without a Case ID or Special Borrowers card can request material through their
local public library's InterLibrary Loan services.
- Requests can
not be made to have materials from other libraries on campus delivered to MSASS for
pickup.
Materials Available for Borrowing
- Non-reference books, pamphlets, and media items may be borrowed from the Library.
- Periodicals are not checked out of the Library.
- Special Borrowers
may only have six items out at a time
(including OhioLINK materials).

Loan Period
- Special Borrowers may borrow books and pamphlets for 21 days.
- Videotapes/DVDs may be borrowed for 7 days.
- Materials borrowed through OhioLINK have a 21 day loan period.
- Reserve material that is charged out overnight is due back in the Library at opening on the
next day. Special borrowers may not borrow reserve material.
Renewals
- Materials from Case libraries and those borrowed through OhioLINK may be renewed once, if there
are no holds on the material.
- Renewals can be made by phone or in person (you do not need to have the books in your
possession to renew them).
- You may also renew your own books through the "
View Your Library Record
" option in the Library Catalog.
Return of Borrowed Materials
- All materials that have been borrowed from the Harris Library, as well as OhioLINK books,
should be returned to the circulation desk or deposited in the book return in front of the
building.
- Videos/DVDs should not be placed in the book return. Please return all videos/DVDs to the
Circulation Desk.
- Material borrowed from other Case libraries may be returned to the Harris Library.

Fines
- For Case overdue books and pamphlets: 25 cents per day.
- For OhioLINK overdue materials: 50 cents per day.
- For computers: $25.00 per day.
- For audiovisual materials: $5.00 per day.
- For one-hour and two-hour reserve material: $2.00 per hour or portion thereof.
- For one-week reserve material: $2.00 per day.
NOTE: **There is no grace period for reserve material.
Recall of materials
- Materials may be recalled by the library any time after the initial due date if they are needed
for course reserve.
- A five day grace period is given for the return of the recalled material.
- After the grace period, a $1.00 per day fine is charged.
Loss of library privileges
- After a person accumulates $15.00 in Library charges (fines, lost materials, etc.) s/he loses
all library privileges until the charges are paid.
- Fines from other libraries on campus can be paid at the Harris Library and fines from the
Harris Library can be paid at other Case libraries.

Lost or damaged materials
- Patrons are responsible for material that they have lost or damaged (including OhioLINK items).
A $30.00 processing fee and a $6.00 billing charge is assessed for each lost item (books or
videos). In addition, you will be charged the cost of the item and any overdue fines that may have
accumulated before the item was reported lost or damaged.
- If we cannot determine the original purchase price of an item, you will be charged the default
replacement cost: $95.00 for books and $535.00 for videos.
**If you have misplaced a library item, it is to your benefit to
inform a library staff member as soon as possible.
Notification
- You will be notified via e-mail when an OhioLINK request arrives.
**If you no longer need the item
notify the library staff
as soon as possible so that the hold can be cancelled.
Audiovisual Material
- Videos owned by the Harris Library may only be borrowed by Case Western Reserve University
faculty, staff, and students, and MSASS special borrowers.
**
NOTE: Some videos have restrictions on use by borrowers other than MSASS faculty. Library
staff can answer questions related to the restrictions.
- Reservations for videos may be made up to 14 days in advance of its intended use.
