Culture and Activities

Favorite thing about Cleveland: “The diversity. There is always something to do in Cleveland.”Jasmine Chandler, Class of 2009

Culturally speaking, Cleveland offers something for everyone. The Cleveland Museum of Art is rated among the nation’s finest. Severance Hall is the home of the world-famous Cleveland Orchestra. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, and the Cleveland Institute of Music are only a few of the 40 cultural, educational, and scientific institutions that are CWRU’s neighbors in University Circle, Cleveland’s park-like cultural gem.

Add to that the 60-plus nationalities represented in the Cleveland population, and you have your pick of restaurants and culural festivals offering almost every cuisine imaginable, from Eastern European to Mexican to Asian.

Cleveland’s revitalized downtown features the opulent Tower City Center, the alluring Galleria at Erieview, and two beautifully restored Arcades. Theater buffs can revel in the grand style of Playhouse Square, or the intimate ambiance of Karamu House and the Cleveland Play House where Broadway tours, original products, ballet, dance, and opera grace the stage. And let’s not foget the nightlife of the Flats alongside the Cuyahoga River, where live music, dancing, and al fresco dining are the norm.
