Infant Mental Health

Infant Mental Health is an emerging focus area in early intervention services for children from birth to six years of age. Young children may be identified as having a mental health concern if they display one or several of the following characteristics:

  • excessive crying and tantruming
  • little or no interest in interacting with adults and children
  • seldom, if ever, comply with what they are asked to do
  • frequently act aggressively toward others such as by hitting or biting
  • act destructively with their own property and environment
  • have difficulty adjusting to changes, transitions or new people
  • seldom respond appropriately when disciplined

Responsive Teaching addresses these issues by working with parents and other caregivers to address these problems. Learn more.
