LINDSEY HOULIHAN (Cohort '00) graduated from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences (MSASS)
at Case with a master's degree (MSSA) in 1990. Lindsey is currently a Licensed Independent Social
Worker (L.I.S.W). From 1990 to 2000, she was the Clinical Director at a social services agency
where she specialized in program development for conceptualizing and implementing substance abuse
services to the criminal justice system, older adults, low income families and managed care
programs. In addition to her work in program development, Lindsey also conducted individual therapy
specializing in mental health issues related to addiction. Currently, she is the Project
Coordinator of the Adoption and Early Intervention Grant at MSASS funded by the Department of
Education. The focus of the grant is to evaluate the effects of early intervention upon newly
adoptive families. In addition, Lindsey is also an Adjunct Instructor at MSASS where she has taught
courses on human development, substance abuse, child and adolescent development and research.
In 2000, Lindsey entered the doctoral program at MSASS where she is currently a doctoral candidate
with a graduation date in 2005. Lindsey was the recipient of the Mentorship Fellowship Award (2001)
and the Grace Brody Institute for Family Studies Dissertation Award (2002). In 2001, Lindsey began
working at the Adoption Health Service at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital where she is the
Director of Community Programs. She co-facilitates the pre-parenting classes for families who are
interested in international adoption. In collaboration with the Adoption Health Service, she is a
co-investigator of a grant which examines the impact of adoption upon internationally adopted
children (IAC). In fact, Lindsey's dissertation is a longitudinal study of the impact of the
adoptive family upon early attachment in IAC. In 2003, Lindsey and Dr. Gary Feldman presented
preliminary results of the attachment study at a national conference on attachment. Lindsey has
also presented at national forums including the North American Council on Adoptable Children
(NACAC) conference and the Joint Council on International Children Services (JCICS) conference.
