DEVELOPMENT AND ALUMNI AFFAIRS

Making a Difference

Since the first graduates left the School of Applied Social Sciences of Western Reserve University in 1919, our alumni have generously given to the School through the Annual Fund and by establishing endowments to provide scholarships to students and support to the work of our faculty. Over the years, this alumni support has enabled the School to become one of the outstanding schools of social work in the United States with a reputation for the highest standards in academics and research. Its distinguished faculty and graduates have had significant impact on the practice of social work to improve the lives of children, families, and communities in all parts of the world.

The Annual Fund is the foundation of alumni support for students. By contributing to the Annual Fund, alumni are making a very personal investment in the next generation of social workers.  One hundred percent of the Annual Fund is used for scholarships at MSASS.

Endowments play a very important role at MSASS. Today, MSASS has the distinction of having nine named academic professorships. The income from these endowments provides support for a distinguished faculty member to pursue research in areas such as mental health, aging, child development, family dynamics, substance abuse, and poverty.

The School has also benefited from the generosity of alumni who have established named scholarship funds for students in general or for those who are pursuing a specific concentration area. Nearly all of the students at MSASS receive some level of financial support. This is a major factor in our ability to attract the very best and brightest of applicants for graduate studies in social work.

Through whichever means of giving to MSASS, our alumni have had a profound influence on the field of social work and helped to change the lives of people who are served by the profession.

Thank you for making a difference!
