My name is Billy Horch and I'm from Fredonia, New York, about three hours from Case Western
University. I'm married and my family is very important to me and has played a big part of my
decision to go to school and continue on with my education.
I've been out of school for twenty-six years. I have been working with kids as a teacher, coach
and as a substance abuse counselor or therapist for twenty-seven years.
One of the reasons I picked Case Western University's intensive semester program is that it
allowed me to further my education while continuing to work and take care of my family. Without
this program it would be very difficult for me to continue with my education for financial reasons
so I'm very thankful for the opportunity.
One of my greatest fears was, after being in the work force for so many years, and being really
safe and secure in my life, reaching out and going to school at age forty-nine was very difficult.
I brought this fear up to my classmates and to some teachers. Everyone seemed to have the same
feeling about coming to school. We all realized that our greatest asset is each other and we all do
have things that are common with each other. We all have fears. We all have anxieties. But we all
want to be better at what we do. So I think it's been a credit to the staff and to the students at
Case to be able to open up and to get positive feedback. I'm just glad to be here...
