The
Lillian F. and Milford J. Harris
Library at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences is one of only a few professional
social work libraries administered by a school of social work. It is available for use by students,
staff, faculty and alumni, as well as the social work community. The collection of the Harris
Library supports the school's curriculum and research interests with holdings of approximately
35,000 volumes, 250 periodical subscriptions, and a variety of media materials.
Library workstations allow MSASS students easy access to EuclidPLUS, the Online Public Access
Catalog of Case Western Reserve University. EuclidPLUS displays the holdings of all the campus
libraries and includes information on books, reports, government documents, and journal titles. The
catalog may also be accessed outside of the library through the Internet.
To assist students, faculty and community members in their research, the Harris Library makes
available computerized literature searching through the use of over 500 databases and CD-ROM
products. Citations to journal articles, book titles, documents, and dissertations can all be
accessed by using these online resources.
The library maintains a website to provide an information resource for social work students,
faculty, practitioners, and other human service workers in the greater Cleveland area.
Access to library holdings outside of the Case campus is made possible through the University's
participation in OhioLINK, a project funded by the Ohio Board of Regents to connect the libraries
of all state funded universities, colleges and community colleges, as well as the State Library.
Through the shared online catalog, students and faculty may request that a specific book be sent to
them from a participating institution for pickup at the Harris Library or other Case campus
library.
Through reciprocal borrowing arrangements, Case Western Reserve University students may also
borrow directly from OhioLINK member libraries. Materials from the Cleveland Public Library may be
borrowed for three weeks with a CleveNET card which may be obtained with proper identification.
The
MSASS Harris Library Computing
Lab is also located in the Harris Library and is open during regular library hours, except when
it is used for instructional purposes.
